How to Use the Application

The CartoCool application allows you to generate a customized map in just a few simple steps:

  1. Create an account or log in.
  2. Upload an Excel file with your geographic data (name, type, latitude, longitude...).
  3. Visualize the points on the map automatically generated.
  4. Make a payment to unlock printing or downloading the map (without watermark).
  5. Print the map (PDF) or download it (PNG). The app is free to use — only the export options are paid.

Required fields in the Excel files:

  • latitude
  • longitude

Attention : The names of the two fields cannot be modified. They are marked in yellow on the Excel table.

 

The following field names are optional, but for better visualization, it is recommended to keep them respectively as the name and type fields,
since the map's symbology and legend are based on the type field.

  • nom_service
  • type_service
  • nom_localisation
  • type_localisation

You may also add additional custom columns — they will automatically appear in the marker and circle popups.

These fields are marked in orange in the downloadable Excel tables.

🌟 Key Map Features

  • Measurement: This tool (located in the top left corner, below the zoom buttons) allows you to manually measure distances between points on the map.
  • Coordinate Display: As you move your mouse over the map, the cursor’s coordinates (latitude / longitude) appear at the bottom left.
  • Map Background: You can switch between different base maps (street, satellite, topographic) depending on your preference.
  • Layer Checkboxes: Use the checkboxes to show or hide map elements such as services, locations, or route display.
  • Show Route: Check this option to automatically calculate a route between two points, along with the distance and estimated travel time by car.

How to use the route tool?
Enable the "Show Route" checkbox. Then:

  1. Double-click on your starting point, then click "Starting location" in the popup box.
  2. Double-click on your destination, then click "Destination location" in the popup box.
The route will appear automatically with the distance in kilometers and the estimated travel time.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Only Excel (.xlsx) files with the required columns are currently supported.

Colors are automatically assigned based on the type_service and type_localisation fields. If more than 5 types are used, colors will repeat.

Data are stored temporarily for map generation and are automatically deleted after a short period.
